Connecting Communities, Supporting Senior Well-Being

Senior Perspectives at Med Center Scottsville and Med Center Franklin have been busy this fall, building community connections and raising awareness of the importance of mental health and emotional well-being for older adults.

The team hosted the monthly Southern Kentucky Senior Providers Coalition meeting, sharing information about Senior Perspectives and the services available to support seniors in the community. Andy Tanaro, therapist with Senior Perspectives, also led a relaxation exercise, giving attendees an opportunity to experience a practical technique for managing stress and promoting relaxation.

The team also participated in the Empowering Senior Health Fair, connecting with older adults and community partners to share program information, answer questions, and increase awareness of available resources.

Through these outreach efforts, Senior Perspectives continues to strengthen relationships with community providers, connect seniors with valuable resources, and promote greater understanding of the mental health support available to older adults.

Supporting Our Community, One Swing at a Time

UltraGroup was proud to sponsor Perry County Memorial Hospital’s annual golf tournament, supporting an event that brings the community together for a great cause. The tournament provides an opportunity to build connections, enjoy some friendly competition, and support the hospital’s ongoing commitment to caring for the community.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support Perry County Memorial Hospital and the important work they do to improve the health and well-being of the people they serve.

Investing in Better Mental Health Care for Older Adults

Staff from all Senior Perspectives programs at Med Center Health, along with team members from Tranquility at Breckenridge Health, attended the annual Mental Health and Aging Conference in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The event provided an opportunity to learn from experts, explore current topics in aging and mental health, and gain valuable insights into the unique needs of older adults.

Throughout the day, team members expanded their knowledge and gained practical information to support their work with the individuals and families they serve. Opportunities like this conference help strengthen clinical knowledge, encourage collaboration, and keep staff informed of best practices in mental health care for older adults.

By investing in continued education and professional development, Senior Perspectives and Tranquility remain committed to providing compassionate, informed, and high-quality services that support the mental and emotional well-being of older adults in their communities.

Helping the Community Navigate Medicare Choices

Understanding Medicare options can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to determine which plan best fits individual needs. Keri Williams, Regional Director, addressed this important topic during a presentation on Medicare ABCs at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

The session focused on explaining the differences between Original Medicare (traditional Medicare) and Medicare Advantage, helping attendees better understand how the two options compare. By breaking down key information in an accessible way, Keri equipped community members with a clearer understanding of their choices and the factors to consider when evaluating coverage.

Providing education on topics like Medicare empowers individuals to ask informed questions, weigh their options, and make decisions that align with their personal health care needs and circumstances. The presentation reflects a commitment to helping community members feel more confident as they navigate important health care decisions.

Connecting Seniors with Health and Wellness Resources

The Knott County Sportsplex welcomed area seniors on October 8 for the Kentucky River Area Development District’s (KRADD) Senior Health and Wellness Fair. The event brought together healthcare providers and community organizations serving Perry, Knott, Leslie, and Letcher counties, offering attendees convenient access to health resources, preventive screenings, and wellness information close to home.

The OLOW Senior Care team joined local providers in helping seniors learn about available services and ways to support their health and well-being. The fair also provided an opportunity for attendees to connect with organizations that serve older adults throughout the region.

With Medicare Open Enrollment approaching, understanding coverage options was another important focus of the event. KRADD SHIP Coordinator Becky Caudill and her team were available to answer questions, review Medicare options, and help seniors understand the differences between plans as they consider their healthcare coverage for the coming year.

Events like this make it easier for older adults to access helpful information, connect with local resources, and take an active role in their healthcare decisions. Thank you to the participating vendors, volunteers, and Knott County Sportsplex staff who helped make the event possible, and to KRADD for bringing these valuable resources together for the community.

Growing Positivity at the Senior Wellness & Lifestyle Expo

The Parkview Wabash Senior Mental Health Program brought a little extra encouragement and connection to the Senior Wellness & Lifestyle Expo on October 8. Program Nurse Janine Caley invited attendees to participate in an interactive Positive Affirmation Tree, where guests could select an uplifting message to take with them or leave an encouraging note for someone else.

The simple activity created a welcoming space for meaningful conversations and shared moments of positivity. Attendees had the opportunity to pause, reflect, and offer words of kindness that might brighten someone else’s day. The tree became more than a creative display—it served as a reminder that even a few thoughtful words can make a difference in how we feel and how we connect with others.

Activities like this highlight the importance of emotional well-being and the role encouragement and social connection can play in healthy aging. A creative idea with a meaningful message, the Positive Affirmation Tree was a wonderful way for the Parkview Wabash team to engage with the community. Great work, Janine and the Parkview Wabash team!
