New Beginnings , Massac Memorial Hospital
New Beginnings recognizes the growing number of older adults in the Massac County community. Along with Behavioral Health Services provided, meeting the needs of this increasing population became a goal at Christmas. The staff at New Beginnings asked the community to nominate older adults living alone, struggling to make ends meet and without family members to support them. Each nomination became an Antique Angel on the hospital’s Christmas tree. Citizens from the community adopted the Angels anonymously and purchase Christmas gifts for them. New Beginnings had the pleasure of delivering gifts to these Angels.
Along with the Angel gifts from their sponsor, Antique Angels received a goodie bag full of toiletry and household items donated by hospital staff and community members. Local postman and volunteer Mike Hausmann joined in the hospital’s efforts by assisting New Beginnings with purchasing $250 worth of these much needed everyday items for the Antique Angels. Mr. Hausmann received this donation from Thrivent Financial who works diligently to support local communities by making positive changes in the lives of others. Thrivent believes they are blessed to be a blessing and that generosity is the key to changing the world! Their motto “LIVE GENEROUSLY” has truly been a blessing to 35 Antique Angels in Massac County Illinois this Christmas!
New Beginnings staff, have also been blessed by the precious comments from this proud generation of recipients. “This is the only gift I will get for Christmas. Thank you,” said one Angel. Another said, “I haven’t received a Christmas present since I was a child.” Our Angels' gratefulness often went beyond words with hugs, kisses, handshakes and tears. New Beginnings would like to thank our Massac Community for adopting 35 Antique Angels this year!
