(Salem, KY) On August 21, 2024, the staff of the New Beginnings Program came together to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day by recognizing and supporting the elderly in their community. The program staff, including Community Education Coordinator Teresa Robertson, Program Director Lisa Young, and Unit Clerk Joy Hutchinson, spearheaded the effort by preparing thoughtful gift baskets for clients as well as for the three local Senior Citizens Centers.
Each Senior Citizens Center held a special drawing, where one lucky attendee had the opportunity to win a gift basket, making the day even more memorable. The baskets, filled with carefully selected items, served as tokens of appreciation for the senior community.
During the celebrations, the staff engaged with seniors in meaningful discussions about grief—a topic many older adults face. The open conversations provided a safe space for attendees to share their experiences and find comfort in knowing they were not alone.
The New Beginnings Program continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the emotional well-being of seniors, with initiatives like these fostering a sense of community and care.
