(Chipley, FL) The Senior Enrichment Program at Northwest Florida Community Hospital hosted a Mental Health Symposium for the public on May 31st. The theme of the event was “You Are Enough.”
The event was supported by the hospital and hosted in the community activities space. It also had a number of sponsors for the event including the Chamber of Commerce, Emerald Coast Hospice, CenterWell Home Health, Covenant Care, and First Federal Bank.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Leisa Bailey, a well-known provider in the community and a prominent referral source for the Senior Enrichment Program. Dr. Bailey is very knowledgeable about mental health and has a deep passion for helping people in the community gain a better awareness of brain health. She spoke about normalizing seeking mental health services.
The program therapist, Jennifer B. Hall also shared the importance of mental health in the geriatric population. The hospital Chaplin spoke about why mental health important at the end of life. Missy Lee, the Director of Children and Family Services, shared valuable information about resources for mental health services in the community. Veronica Guettler, a Psychiatric APRN, spoke about treatment for mental health across the lifespan.
The event was well attended by the community with over 70 guests attending. Attendees were treated to snacks and lunch provided by the sponsors while they listened to the 5 person panel speak about mental health. Program staff who coordinated the event, including Senior Enrichment Program Director, Connie Smelcer, received positive feedback about the event. Great job to everyone involved.
