UltraGroup Healthcare Celebrates Charles Lovell, Jr. as the 2023 Knox CountyChamber Man of the Year

(Barbourville, KY) It is with immense pride and admiration that UltraGroup Healthcare congratulates Charles Lovell, Jr., CEO of Barbourville ARH, on being honored with the prestigious 2023 Knox County Chamber Man of the Year Award. This well-deserved recognition reflects Charles's outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the healthcare sector and the local community.

Charles's remarkable journey in healthcare spans over 35 years, beginning as an Emergency Room nurse in a 600-bed hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. His diverse experiences have sculpted his profound understanding of the intricacies within the healthcare landscape, particularly in rural communities. Choosing to dedicate the majority of his administrative career to rural healthcare in Kentucky, Charles took on the role of Community CEO at Barbourville ARH, a decision he refers to as leading a "big little hospital."

The successful turnaround of Barbourville ARH under Charles's leadership is a testament to his vision and the dedication of the compassionate team he assembled, now consisting of 260 employees. Beyond the hospital, Charles oversees six clinics spanning 150 miles, with impressive annual gross revenues of $115 million and an annual payroll of $10 million. Actively involved in professional organizations, he serves as Chairman of both the Small/Rural Hospital Forum and the KHA Political Action Committee within the Kentucky Hospital Association.

Charles's commitment extends beyond the professional realm into the Knox County community, where he serves on various boards, including KCEOC Community Action Partnership and the Knox County Autism Foundation. As the President of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, Charles exemplifies what it means to be an engaged and community-driven leader. His involvement with organizations such as Leadership Tri County and his presidency at the Chamber underscore his dedication to enhancing the well-being of the community he serves.

A proud member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Charles achieved the esteemed status of Fellow and received the 2015 KY American College of Healthcare Executives Senior Careerist Award. Outside of his professional endeavors, Charles finds joy in cheering for the TN Volunteers, engaging in CrossFit workouts, and pursuing his passion as a part-time goat farmer. However, his proudest achievements are his three grown sons, Kyle, Ben, and Jack, along with his cherished grandsons, Henry, Hudson, Murphy, and Oliver.
