Welcome, Julia!

Julia Doan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, joins Renewed Horizon’s at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN as the new full-time therapist.  Julia has worked at Renewed Horizons as a PRN Therapist while doing private practice.  Julia states “ I enjoy working with individuals who bring a lifetime of experience, resilience, and wisdom into the therapeutic space.  I find meaning in supporting people through life transitions, grief, and emotional challenges while promoting dignity, independence, and overall quality of life.  I have experience providing evidence-based mental health care and value a compassionate, person-centered approach that honors each individual’s unique story.  I cannot think of a better fit for me than the Renewed Horizons Program at PCMH.

Antique Angels

The team at the Senior Enrichment Program at Hamilton Memorial Hospital continues a cherished holiday tradition through their Antique Angel Tree program. Now in its 14th year, the program has been serving seniors in the community since 2011, spreading generosity, dignity, and connection during the holiday season.

This past year alone, the program served 150 Angels, and since its inception, more than 1,300 Angelshave been supported through the efforts of the Senior Enrichment team and the wider community. Tiffany Cox, Program Director, shared, “I feel blessed to live in a community that responds so positively to this program. I have people asking for Angels a month before I even have them ready.” She added that community members truly embrace the spirit of the program and often share how meaningful it is for them to adopt and sponsor an Angel.

When gifts are delivered, the response from recipients is always filled with excitement and gratitude. The Angel Tree focuses on meeting practical needs—such as toilet paper, paper towels, and laundry supplies—while also fulfilling special requests like warm coats, clothing, rugs, and other essential comfort items. The joy on the faces of the recipients is a powerful reminder of the impact this program continues to have year after year.

Thanks to the dedication of the Senior Enrichment team and the generosity of the community, the Antique Angel Tree remains a shining example of compassion in action.

A Decade of Making a Difference

Evelyn Libe, LCSW, primary therapist for Senior Perspectives at Med Center Caverna, recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary with the Med Center.  (12 years, including her time before Med Center). When asked what Evelyn enjoys about working at Senior Perspectives, she states:   “My favorite thing about working in Senior Perspectives is getting to know the patients, their life histories, and listening to stories about their families.  It brings about empathy and patience. Helping them navigate stigma, isolation, or age-related barriers makes it feel meaningful and important. It helps them reclaim their dignity and hope where others tend to overlook them.  It makes a huge difference to see small improvements in them such as reporting feeling respected and heard.  They always look forward to coming to the program to be around people facing common challenges in their lives. It is always a great feeling to hear someone reporting improved mood, decreased anxiety, better sleep, decreased stress, improved relationship with family, and less loneliness simply by attending the program. It makes me happy to see progress and patient graduating from the program. On the other hand, it is touching to see some of them not wanting to discharge from the program. “

Congratulations Evelyn!! We appreciate all you do for Senior Perspectives and the patients you serve!

Honoring Caregivers

Our Lady of the Way ARH Senior Care recently hosted a special luncheon at the Country Music Highway Museum to celebrate relatives, grandparents, and caregivers raising children. The event, organized by Appalachian Regional Healthcare in partnership with ARH Cardiology and the Johnson County Health Department, focused on recognizing caregivers while supporting their health and well-being. Guests enjoyed a complimentary meal, special gifts, free health screenings, and heart health education. The gathering served as both a celebration and a reminder that caregivers deserve care and community support, too.
